With all the effort you’re putting into your company’s Instagram presence, it’s nice earn likes on your posts. Then again, it’s even better to inspire a flood of comments. How do you get your Instagram followers so pumped on your post that they just have to say a few words or notify a friend?
I took a walk around our Simply Measure office here in Seattle and gathered up some advice from my colleagues. We're a very opinionated crew so I had about 10 suggestions in under 2 minutes. Below are my 5 favorites for you to consider.
1. Share Memes People Can Relate To
Use memes that inspire relatable situations. Memes allow for snappy and humorous text that would otherwise lose its effect in the caption pane. People frequently comment with their friends’ Instagram handles, then their friends do the same for their friends, and on and on. This chain reaction increases the number of comments very quickly. – Jade Furubayashi, Social Media Manager
2. Make ‘Em Want to Act…Right Now!
I follow a shop that does flash sales on their Instagram feed and says if you want to buy it leave your email in the comments. Usually, they only have one or so of each item so not all of them actually end up with it, but I think it’s a really good way of having people self-identify themselves as customers. – Katy Whitney, Account Manager
3. Use Comparisons
Use comparisons. By asking people to choose X or Y (and putting them in the image) you can start conversations. – Ron Schott, Director of Professional Services
4. Get Them a Little Confused
Don’t be afraid to make people scratch their heads a little bit. Oftentimes, nonsensical whimsy is what entices Instagram users to engage and, perhaps most importantly, keeps your brand top-of-mind. – Lucy Hitz, Content Marketing Producer
5. Inspire a Response with a CTA
Use a call to action (CTA). Just ask for a response in a post to inspire comments. For example, try posts like, “Tell us what your favorite …. is” or “Tag a friend you think would xxx” – Lauren Berry, Enterprise Client Partner
